You’re an Idiot – Get Over Yourself.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You’re an idiot, and you should probably get over yourself. I’ll tell you why.

It was either Socrates or Plato (or one of those ancestral thinkers of ages past) that said: “I know that I know nothing”. An Idiot is defined as a stupid person, a person of low intelligence. (Google said that, not me). The fact that you think you really matter bigly in this world is why I think you’re an idiot.

In a world of almost 8 billion people, (of which 30% are citizens of facebook),  what makes you think you matter? You probably really don’t. You just tell yourself you do, to make you sleep well at night. It’s true, and you can either face that fact or chicken away from it like the coward you most likely are.

Maybe you started reading this piece thinking it is motivational in a weirdly ironic form. You make me laugh. Why should I motivate you? Why should anybody motivate you? Why do you really need motivation?

The motivational industry (whatever that means) is based on the premise that people (yes, you) are generally sad, discouraged, demoralised, unmotivated and dead inside. They need some sort of effort or force to feel alive. I don’t buy that premise one bit, it’s total bullshit.

I probably should have started by saying this piece is demotivational (I’m not even sure that’s a word. If it’s not, I claim it for myself as the inventor), but again, that would be based on the assumption that you are already motivated. Frankly, I really don’t care. So, let’s not do labels, okay? Cool.

I am sincerely less concerned whether this piece leaves you motivated, demotivated, sad, happy, concerned, hateful, loving, reflectful (this is actually a word, you should look it up dumbass), melodramatic, or whatever. I just want you to be okay, and if your main concern in life is not to constantly echo Michael Jackson by repeatedly asking if “Annie” is okay, you’re probably a bigger idiot than I thought when I started this. (By “Annie”, I mean you. Tracy, Lindsay, Femi, Tayo, Chinwe, Samson, Donald, Mubarak, Vertohngen, or whatever appelation your parents chose to slap on you).  Are you Okay?

You don’t have to be ectastic, excited or totally over the moon like molecules of gas in heat. You could just be okay.

Learn to laugh. Learn to Live. Learn to Love, and don’t forget to eat.
